About this service
Glaucoma is sometimes called the "silent thief of sight" — there are usually no symptoms until significant peripheral vision is already lost, and that loss is permanent. Early detection is everything. We screen for glaucoma at every comprehensive exam using a combination of intraocular pressure measurement, optic-nerve evaluation, and retinal imaging. Patients at higher risk receive additional testing including visual fields and OCT (when available) on referral.
Who it's for
- Adults over 40 (risk increases with age)
- Anyone with a family history of glaucoma
- Patients of African, Hispanic, or Asian descent (higher genetic risk)
- Patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, or previous eye injuries
- Patients on long-term steroid medications
What's included
- Intraocular pressure (eye pressure) measurement
- Optic-nerve examination
- Anterior-chamber-angle assessment
- Retinal imaging when indicated
- Risk-factor review and a clear plan for follow-up if needed
What to expect at your Post Falls visit
- 1
Glaucoma screening is included in every comprehensive eye exam.
- 2
If a risk factor is identified, we may recommend additional testing or co-manage with a glaucoma specialist.
- 3
Most insurance plans cover screening as part of a comprehensive exam.
Why this matters
Glaucoma damage cannot be reversed — but it can almost always be slowed or stopped if caught early. Skipping eye exams is the single biggest risk factor for vision loss from glaucoma.
