About this service
Diabetes is the leading cause of new blindness in adults under 65, and diabetic retinopathy can develop without any noticeable symptoms until vision is permanently affected. The American Diabetes Association recommends every patient with type 1 or type 2 diabetes receive a dilated eye exam at least once per year. Our diabetic eye exams use high-resolution retinal imaging to document the retina precisely so changes year-over-year can be tracked.
Who it's for
- All patients diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes
- Patients with prediabetes or gestational diabetes
- Anyone whose primary care provider has recommended a diabetic eye exam
What's included
- Pupil dilation for full retinal visualization
- Detailed examination of the retina, macula, and optic nerve
- Digital retinal imaging for documentation and year-over-year comparison
- Screening for diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, and cataracts
- A written report sent to your primary care or endocrinologist (with consent)
What to expect at your Post Falls visit
