About this service
Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of severe vision loss in adults over 60. Like glaucoma, early AMD often has no symptoms — but treatments (when needed) work best when started early. Screening uses retinal imaging to look for the earliest signs of macular changes, and Amsler-grid testing can help patients monitor for new symptoms between exams.
Who it's for
- Adults over 50
- Patients with a family history of macular degeneration
- Smokers (the single largest modifiable risk factor for AMD)
- Patients noticing distortion, dark spots, or central-vision changes
What's included
- Retinal imaging to evaluate the macula
- Amsler-grid testing for self-monitoring
- Risk-factor review including diet and lifestyle counseling
- AREDS-2 supplement guidance when appropriate
- Referral to a retinal specialist if intervention is needed
What to expect at your Miles City visit
- 1
Macular screening is included in every comprehensive exam.
- 2
If early changes are found, we'll set a monitoring plan and review nutritional support that has been shown to slow progression.
- 3
Sudden new central-vision symptoms require urgent evaluation — call us right away.
Why this matters
Wet AMD can be treated with injections that often preserve or improve vision — but only if caught quickly. Dry AMD progression can be slowed with the right nutritional support. Early detection makes both possible.
